Dr Matheus took the time to explain how he was able to help me on my cervical issues and lumbar surgeries. Very thorough and knowledgeable. I am confident in moving forward with his plan of care.

The doctor is very detailed on explaining everything. He also gives other options before discussing surgery, so he’s definitely working to find your best alternatives to surgery first.
I had a great office experience and my sister has also had a great surgical experience with him in the past, which is why she recommended him to me.

Dr. Matheus did my back surgery three years ago this coming December 14. He placed two rods and six screws and three new discs into my lower lumbar part of my back. I have to report after three years, I can do everything that I couldn’t do before. I don’t have any pain, my sciatica was out of control before, and I thought his staff was excellent. I would like to thank him very much for what he did for me. I am very grateful!!!

I saw Virgilio Matheus, MD Neurosurgeon, at Orlando Health, on 11/21/23. after being referred to him by Dr Mautner, Management/Anesthesiologist here in Mount Dora Florida at Manoogian Orthopedic Center. My visit was at 1:30 and I was seen on time. The entire staff was friendly, efficient, with good communication skills. My visit with Dr Matheus, was extremely helpful on deciding what options I had for my severe central spinal stenosis, broad based bulging on L2-L3. I had previously had spinal fusion/laminectomy/Discectomy with instrumentation on L3-L5, S5-S1 approximately 10 year ago, My major concern was having my past surgery reopened, and removal of six screws along with hardware, and inserting more 10 more screws in my lumbar spine. Leaving me with a larger scar and month's/years of rehabilitation. This was one of the options I received from a previous Orthopedic surgeon at an earlier visit this month. I will not name place, or name of Doctor here. Dr Matheus asked me what I was experiencing, I explained to him my situation, the pain and inability to walk at times, with weakness in my thighs, buttocks which made me feel I would fall and debilitating pain down the left side of my body up to the medial part of my leg near my shin. Dr Matheus listened carefully and asked questions in particular where I had the most discomfort. He then reviewed my MRI with me in detail, and explained exactly what was going on and what my options where. He would be able to resolve my issue without having to touch my previous surgery. That in itself removed 100% of my stress. He explained to me that they're new technologies with instrumentation that can be performed, such as Prone Left Direct Lateral Interbody Fusion L2/L3 with L2 laminectomy on my spine. Only removing a small portion of my lamina where he could remove the central spinal stenosis, but would leave the rest of my vertebrae intact/strong for support. He explained to me clearly the process, along with the pros and the cons. These are the best minimally invasive options he gave me and I accepted them. For those of you who don’t know Dr Virgilio Matheus bio, he did a Fellowship in Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 2013 according to his peers and other medical professionals not everyone has this privilege or the qualifications to do a fellowship here. Dr Virgilio Matheus is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, patient and kind. This is what you are looking for when making a decision to have a spinal surgery as serious & difficult as this. I was 100% scared when I walked in the office but walked out 100% confident in Dr Virgilio Matheus and his staff on my decision to have the surgery performed by him and his team. My surgery will be sometime in January 2024, I will come back and share my success story with you. Thank you Dr Virgilio Matheus and staff I look forward to my future encounters with you and your staff. Happy Holidays to you and your Team. Milagros Crespo, Mount Dora, Florida.

A very safe experience. From the receipt of patients, the nurse who calls me to prepare my appointment to the doctor and then the closing of the appointment, everything is very attentive and cordial.
Thank you for this experience and may your kindness and dedication for each of the people you receive always be the same 🙏🏽
