Dr. Virgilio Matheus, MD, FACS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon at the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute. He specializes in treating conditions affecting the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Dr. Matheus earned his medical degree from the J.M. Vargas School of Medicine at Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. He completed his residency in neurological surgery and a fellowship in complex spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, where he was recognized as Resident of the Year and received the Synthes Award from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons for his research on spinal cord and spinal column injuries. He is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
